2009 Marathon Pacers

Scott Bolen - 3:30 Co-Pacer

Scott is a veteran of 7 marathons, many half-marathons, and 50 triathlons including an Ironman. His marathon PR is 3:30 in the 2004 Olathe Marathon and has paced the Hospital Hill half-marathon the past 3 years as well as at the most recent Kansas City Marathon. From that pacing experience, Scott is convinced the Smart Pacing Strategy is the best method for getting the most runners beating their pace goal and he is eager to have a lot of fun and to help reach goals.
Matt Twyman - 3:30 Co-Pacer

Matt had his first pacing experience last year at the 2009 Waddell & Reed Half Marathon pacing the 1:40 Group and is looking forward to another pacing experience in Olathe. Matt ran the Olathe Marathon in 2008 and qualified for Boston with a time of 3:11. He has ran 4 Marathons total with a PR of 3:08 at Chicago in 2008 and ran his first Boston Marathon in 2009. Matt is excited about the atmosphere of race day, the responsibility of helping others, and the overall experience.
Mike Roberts - 3:40 Co-Pacer

Mike's been running for 15 years. He was guilted into the sport after marrying a life-long runner/marathoner and has been addicted since. He's finished more than 100 races, including five Ironman triathlons and nine marathons, never coming close to winning one. In addition to participating, Mike helps organize two major local races each year. He's pacing the first half of the Olathe Marathon 3:40 Group as a final taper for the Boston Marathon (9 days later) and as a tune-up for the Long Course Triathlon World Championship in Germany (in July).
Jackie Foy - 3:40 Co-Pacer

Jackie is excited to be pacing the Olathe Marathon for the first time. In 2004, she completed the Chicago Marathon, and then returned to the half marathon distance before completing the 2008 Portland Marathon with a Boston qualifying time. Most recently, Jackie ran in the Boston Marathon and paced the 1:50 time at the 2009 Kansas City Half Marathon. For her, having a pacer as a guide in the Portland Marathon was a great aid in achieving a qualifying time for Boston. Jackie hopes to do the same for others as a pacer and is looking forward to pacing this group to a terrific end!
Margo Laville - 3:50 Pacer

I am looking forward to running Olathe Marathon for the second time. My previous pacing experience is with the Waddell and Reed KC Marathon for leading the 3:50 full marathon pace slot. In my 17 years of running, I have completed 8 marathons in the last 7 years including Boston. My PR's are 19:20 for the 5K and 3:26 for the full marathon. I relish the opportunity to help others and pace for Olathe Marathon!
Mike Brown - 4:00 Co-Pacer

A marathon is always a new adventure for Mike...even though he's completed 57 of them in 38 states! He has served as a pacer for the Kansas City Marathon for 2 years, but this is his first time to pace Olathe.. Part of his training consists of keeping tabs on 800 6th graders as principal of Plaza Middle School. As always, Mike is up for a new adventure!
Megan Brown - 4:00 Co-Pacer

Trying to follow in Mike's footsteps, Megan has completed 45 marathons in 34 states. With a Boston and a PR of 3:20 under her belt, she's always looking for a new challenge! Megan has paced the Kansas City Marathon for 2 years as well, and it's her first time to pace for Olathe. Megan's training is enhanced by chasing after her daughters, ages 1 and 3.
Carol Frike - 4:10 Pacer

Carol debuted as a marathon pacer this year at Waddell and Reed Marathon. She had so much fun she wanted to do it again in Olathe. She has completed 42 marathons, with a personal best of 3:45 at Gobbler Grind 2007, which earned her trip to Boston in April 2009. Running helps me keep my sanity and truly is therapeutic to me; it helps to manage the stresses that are thrown on us from time to time. She is a huge advocate of the run/walk program to ensure the legs stay fresh and hydration happens efficiently and effectively.
Erich Ranz - 4:10 Pacer

Erich started running a bit more regularly several years ago when his wife beat him to the finish line in a 10k. Thousands of miles and a handful of PRs (3:25 marathon) later and he's excited to be co-pacing in the 4:10 group. Completing a marathon is an incredible achievement and Mike is looking forward to providing some encouragement, advice, inspiration, and fun. Mike reminds everyone to train smart to ensure you’re on the starting line in April feeling great.
Sarav Karunanithi - 4:20

Sarav has run 8 marathons and 5 half marathons so far and was a pacer for Kansas City Marathon last year. He enjoys running long distance and help runners achieve their time goal. Sarav would be using Smart pace strategy and make sure everyone gets hydrated properly and take Strategic walk breaks at aid stations and noticeable hills. He is confident of pacing you to reach your time goal of 4:19:59 or under and having fun throughout the race!
Belinda Ambrose - 4:30 Co-Pacer

Belinda is thrilled to pace the Olathe Marathon! As an avid runner, having completed 5 marathons and 6 half marathons, and cheerleading coach, she has the experience and positive attitude to lead us through those 26.2 miles! Running is so important to her and she loves running alongside and motivating others to accomplish their goals! Belinda says, “We will warm up in the first miles and then hit our stride. 4:30 here we come!”
Roger Page - 4:30 Co-Pacer

Roger has been running, (10k’s, etc.) for over 25 years. He has probably ran 15-20 half marathons and six or seven marathons. His PR for a marathon is 3:24 in 1996. This time Roger's goal is just like yours, to finish the marathon in 4:30.. He will be pacing the first half of the marathon with you and will then determine his strategy for the second half. When Rgoer is not running or taking care of his two little girls, he is an Independent Financial Advisor. Roger is a huge believer in the smart pace technique because it works! He looks forward to getting to know each participant as you run together.
Anita Roberts - 4:40 Co-Pacer

Anita has been running since high-school, but started running marathons about 6 years ago. She caught the marathon bug and has ran 15 marathons, including the Olathe Marathon 2 times. AAnita also enjoys running half marathons and participating in an occasional triathlon. This is her second time pacing a marathon. She is looking forward to meeting the 4:40 group and helping them reach their marathon goals!
Stephanie Steiniger - 4:40 Co-Pacer

Stephanie has been running since the birth of her daughter, 10 years ago, and has since run 15 marathons, including qualifying for and running Boston in 2005. Her PR in the full marathon is 3:42, and this is her first experience leading a pace group. She is very excited about it and looking forward to the opportunity!
Julia Webster - 4:50 Co-Pacer

Julia has played sports her whole life, but didn't start running long distances until college when she joined the rowing team. After college, she ran with her dog to de-stress after work. To keep herself motivated and challenged, she decided to sign up for a charity 5k. From there, the events just got longer. She has completed 8 marathons as well as numerous 10k, 1/2 marathons and also several triathlons.
Nicole Ratliff - 4:50 Co-Pacer

Nicole Ratliff has had a life long love of running. She didn't start running marathons until she married her husband, Doran. He introduced her to Runner's Edge when she was training for her first half marathon. Since then she has gone on to run several full and 1/2 marathons. She is also a member of Sports Bras to Sports Bars, a running and networking group for women. Olathe will be the second marathon she has paced and is excited to lead first timers and veteran marathoners to the finish in just under 4:50!
Steve Hicks - 5:00 Co-Pacer

Steve will be pacing the first half of the 5:00 hour group. His running resume includes 3 marathons (St. Louis 2004, Olathe 2005, Houston 2009) and 8 or 9 half marathons and a half dozen triathlons. Our pace group will have a good time, keep a nice pace and watch the time and miles fly by!
Mary Nacrelli - 5:00 Co-Pacer

This is Mary's third race to serve as a pacer and she will be co-pacing with Steve Hicks.  Mary has completed 5 marathons,10 half-marathons and has been a Runner's Edge member for the last two and a half years.  Mary's two objectives for the KC Marathon are to make sure you reach your goal of completing the race just under 5:00 and to make sure you enjoy a fun and healthy race!
Mike Pfannenstiel - 5:15 Co-Pacer

Mike had been running for quite a few years, but finally got serious when his wife, Kelly, began running in 2007. His first long distance races were the Kansas City Half Marathon in 2007 and the Hospital Hill in 2008. Mike enjoyed the experience so much he decided to try a marathon. By the time they ran together in the Olathe Marathon, Mike will have completed four marathons. In November, he improved his PR by over 16 minutes, due in large part to using a pacing group for the first time. Mike is looking forward to helping others achieve what he believes is a major accomplishment.
Kelly Pfannenstiel - 5:15 Co-Pacer

Kelly started running in January 2007 with the goal of running the Corporate Challenge 5K that May. Since, she has completed numerous 5K's, 10K's, along with eight half marathons - including pacing the 3:15 group for the 2009 Hospital Hill Half Marathon and the 3:00 Kansas City Half Marathon. Kelly loves encouraging and mentoring others to achieve their fitness and health goals. Her goal is to help you have a terrific race day experience and cross the finish line with a smile on your face!
