Olathe Marathon

The marathon will start at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Olathe District Activity Center, 159th and Lone Elm, Olathe, Kansas. The course will finish at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 W. 151st St., Olathe, Kansas. A flat, fast and USATF certified and sanctioned course with 18 aid stations along the way. Course protection provided until 1:30 p.m., after which participants must use sidewalks. Finish line open until 2:00 p.m.

5-Person Marathon Relay

The marathon relay will be run in Ekiden format, 10k-5k-10k-5k-12k, and will start simultaneously with the marathon. Finish line open until 2:00 p.m. at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 W. 151st St., Olathe, Kansas. Team captains will receive a packet with specific details, T-shirts and bib numbers for each member. Teams will be shuttled to and from transition areas.

15k

The 15k will be run on an out and back course, starting simultaneously with the marathon. Finish line open until 2:00 p.m. at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 W. 151st St., Olathe, Kansas. Open to all ages and abilities, including runners and walkers.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided from finish line at the Great Mall of the Great Plains to the starting line at ODAC. Shuttles will run between 5:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The last shuttle will leave at 6:30 a.m.
Transportation will be provided following the event between the Great Mall and ODAC. Shuttles will run until 3:00 p.m.
Transportation to and from all relay exchange zones will be provided.

Aid Stations

Eighteen aid stations will be located on the marathon course offering you water, sports drink and further fuel. Port-a-potties will be located at every other aid station.

Safety

To ensure your safety, the races are limited to registered participants only. No rollerblades, bicycles, skateboards, dogs or headphones are allowed. Non-compliance with these safety rules will result in disqualification. The Olathe Police and course marshals will control traffic, but runners should take extreme caution at all times. For information about accommodations for disabled runners, contact the Race Director, 913-764-1050.

Weather

Based on average temperatures, on race day the temperature is likely to reach a high of 76° F (23° C) with a low of 55° F (10° C).

Registration

Confirmation

For entries received before May 21, your confirmation will be e-mailed to you. If no e-mail is provided, your confirmation will be faxed or mailed to you.

Chip Timing

Runner's times will be registered through chip timing. Participants must attach the chip to his or her shoe prior to starting the race. The last runner of relay teams will wear the chip. A $50 fee will be charged to runners/teams who do not return the chip after the race.

Race Packet Pick-Up

Race packet pick-up will be at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 W. 151st St. in Olathe, Kansas, on Friday, May 28, from 12:00 to 8 p.m. You may also pick-up your race packet on Saturday, May 29 at the Olathe District Activity center, 159th & Lone Elm, from 5:00 to 6:30 a.m. There will be no race-day registration.

Awards

Marathon
 
Awards will be given to:

  • First three overall male and female finishers
  • First three male and female masters
  • First three males and females within the following categories: 17 and under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and above
  • Overall male and female wheelchair finisher.
  • All marathon participants who finish will receive a commemorative medal as they cross the finish line!

Marathon Relay
Awards will be given to the top three teams in each division, who will receive plaques for team member. Divisions include open male, open female, open mixed, master male (all members 40 and above), master female and master mixed.

15k
  
Awards will be given to:

  • First three overall male and female finishers
  • First three male and female masters
  • First three males and females within the following categories: 17 and under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and above
  • Overall male and female wheelchair finisher.
