Blazing New Trails to celebrate Olathe Medical Center as a trailblazer
At its Blazing New Trails Dinner and Auction Sept. 20, the Chamber will celebrate the success of Olathe Medical Center and its impact on the community. In the past, the event has featured such trailblazers as Garmin International, Hyer Boot, Kansas School for the Deaf, Lone Elm Park, and the Naval Air Station. The event will be at 6 p.m. at Garmin's International Hangar, 151 N. New Century Pkwy. at New Century AirCenter. It will raise funds for the Olathe Chamber of Commerce Foundation Fund for support of the Chamber's economic development, convention and tourism, and leadership programs. To donate an auction item, become a sponsor, or attend the event, visit www.olathe.org or call 764-1050.

I-35/Lone Elm interchange construction continues
Progress continues on the I-35/Lone Elm interchange. As the contractor prepares to hang steel girders for the overpass, traffic will be shut down on I-35 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sept. 15 through 18 and on Sept 19 and 20 from 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. During these night hours, traffic on I-35 between 175th and 151st streets will be diverted to US 169. The area that will be served by the interchange has seen robust industrial growth in the last few years with plans for more development in the making.

Heart to Heart seeking funds for SchoolPacks for disadvantaged students
Heart to Heart International is seeking funds to purchase 1,500 additional backpacks for disadvantaged youngsters heading back to school. The Olathe non-profit has helped more than 125,000 students get ready for school over the past 20 years, but this year requests are up and an additional $30,000 is needed to meet requests. The Heart to Heart SchoolPack is a sturdy backpack filled with essential school supplies for specific age groups. If you're interested in donating money for purchasing new backpacks, which cost $20 each, for distribution by Heart to Heart, contact the non-profit at (913-764-5200 or visit www.hearttoheart.org.
